As a huge believer in the therapeutic benefits of cannabidiol, or CBD as its more well known, you can bet I use it daily to help manage various symptoms and prevent illness. My CBD oil is the first thing I take when I wake in the morning. Im 43, and feel better than I have in 20 years.

Ive been using CBD products for a long time and like everyone else, I’m still trying to find my way through the onslaught of new CBD products on line these days.

Some are made from hemp, some from hemp seed, some from cannabis sativa, and the list goes on. So how does anyone determine what the best type of oil is for them. Well, first we should look at the differences between these types of plant species. After chatting with experts I know in the CBD ,here is the conclusion to my exploration into what is hemp oil, hemp seed oil, and cannabis oil exactly?

Check out this 30 second videoon the difference between hemp seed oil and CBD oil

What Are the Major Differences Between CBD Oil, Hemp Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, and Cannabis Oil?

There are major differences between hemp seed oil, and hemp CBD oil made from industrial hemp plants, and cannabis oil which comes from the recreational strains of the cannabis sativa plant. The  recreational strains usually have high levels of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol thc) and should be tested with caution. The other oils, which are made from other parts of the plant on the other hand, carry almost no THC at all (less than 0.3 percent thc). And hemp seed oil actually contains no CBD at all.

However, sorting my way through the CBD industry jargon these days has made it more and more difficult to make sure that I am getting actual CBD in my favorite products. It seems that many brands are marketing their CBD products using terminology that isn’t always correct. And this, my friends, is quite misleading.

Truth is, many times when I read a CBD label I see that cannabidiol is an ingredient listed on the container, but then I read that its made from hemp seed oil, which has no CBD at all in it, and I feel like someone is trying to sell me snake oil.

There needs to be some industry clarification that takes place, so that the average CBD consumer can be confident that the product they are using actually has CBD in it.

In order to gain some piece of mind for myself, I went to the people that know the most about CBD to find some clarity as to what the difference is between hemp oil, hemp seed oil, CBD oil, and cannabis oil. Here is what I came back with.

What is CBD?

CBD is the abbreviated term for “cannabidiol” and it refers to a particular component of the cannabis plant, which has excellent anti-inflammatory properties. These days you are seeing CBD included in everything from skin-care products to pain relief capsules and almost everything in between. CBD is actually extracted from the leaves, flowers, and stalks of the cannabis plant.

Cannabidiol is one of over two hundred active compounds that are found in the cannabis plant.  CBD acts as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory, which can reduce pain and inflammation in muscle and skin tissue.

For centuries before us it was used to provide pain relief from muscle aches, arthritis joint pain, headaches, and to help heal skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, as well as help manage chronic pain. It was even used as a topical treatment to help manage the pain from sunburns and bug bites. When ingested it adds a layer of calmness and well being while still containing its anti inflammatory benefits.

Recent testing has revealed that CBD is a very potent anti-inflammatory agent and a strong antioxidant which reduces lipid production by the sebaceous glands. It is marketed under the terms CBD, hemp CBD, cannabis CBD, all of which contribute to the current confusion buyers are experiencing.

What is Hemp Seed Oil?

Hemp seed oil is similar to many other nut and seed oils such as sunflower and jojoba oil. Hemp oils extracted in an extrusion machine (cold pressed) and is only made from the seeds of the hemp plant. It is very good as a seed oil and is high in antioxidants,omega-3 and -6 fatty acids, but hemp seed oil actually contains no CBD at all.

Hemp seed or cannabis seed oil has been available in health food stores for decades already and is present in everything from smoothies to skin care.

So hemp seed oil contains no CBD, or even THC for that matter. It should be viewed as more of a super food than anything else. It also works well as a skin softener and it won’t clog your pores when used as a moisturizing agent.

What is Hemp CBD Oil?

Hemp CBD oil on the other hand is made from the flowers, leaves, and stalks of the industrial hemp plant. These plants contain no THC (less than 0.3% to be exact), but they are rich in CBD and other cannabinoids. “They have a lot of medicine without the high” stated one expert I spoke with. “Since there is no THC present, hemp CBD oil is perfectly safe to use even with children or the elderly.

What is Cannabis Oil?

Cannabis oil contains CBD, but it also contains THC, sometimes in very large quantities. This type of oil will give you the effect of being high and can be a scary ordeal for those expecting this sensation. This type of product is not sold legally in stores so you won’t find any on the shelves at your local health store.

What Is the Difference Between Hemp Seed Oil and Hemp CBD Oil?

Considering that both oils aid in improving personal wellness, you won’t hurt yourself if you consume either one. However, if you are looking for the therapeutic benefits only offered by CBD then you need to find Hemp CBD oil and not hemp seed oil.

The sad case is that some brands are trying to put one over on us and saying that their hemp seed oil contains CBD, but it does not. We need to be careful of this when making our CBD purchases.

Sure, they both come from the same plant, but they’re significantly different beyond that: “The biggest issue is that hemp seed oil and CBD are two totally different compounds that come from different parts of the hemp plant, have different makeups, and different benefits,” says one industry expert. “

Marketing them as the same thing just isn’t accurate and does a disservice to consumers who are expecting certain benefits that they won’t get from hemp seed oil and who are often paying more for what they think is CBD.” I think she is right. How about you? Do you make sure you check the label to see where your CBD is actually coming from?

While it’s not required to see the milligrams listed on the bottle, it has become a common practice to do so. If it’s not, you should wonder what’s in that bottle you’re paying for.

What is One of the Best CBD Brands?

One line of products stand out from the many others . That brand is Ananda Enterprises.

Some specific hemp products are unique in that they are a special blend of whole hemp extract that’s 100% organically farmed. The hemp is grown free from pesticides too. Instead, ladybugs are introduced to control and regulate outside pests to keep the cannabinoids of the hemp plant perfectly balanced.

Every batch processed in their lab is consistently measured for excellent quality. They source the highest quality, pure C8 Medium Chain Triglyceride (MCT) oil derived from coconuts. While many hemp products are taking the low road with misleading labels and sub par products, Ananda has taken the road less travelled and produced a pure Whole Plant Extract product that is ethically, and organically grown, just like nature intended.

Now that you know the difference between hemp seed oil, hemp oil, and cannabis oil, make sure you don’t fall into any CBD marketing traps. Just be sure to check the product label to make sure you are buying a product that actually contains CBD.
